Fringe OpeningAt five years old, Capital Fringe continues to be relevant: to amuse, shock and rock the body in the Nation's Capital. Festival Ticket prices are still $15, the same as when we started. Inflation? No thanks! We gather the most innovative talent from the District and beyond to perform on Fringe Stages. But, it ain't cheap bringin' you all this Festival! Many festival patrons do not realize that we are a self-producing festival; 70% of our ticket sales go straight to the artists - so, even with record box office totals, our 30% portion of ticket sales do not cover even a quarter of our yearly budget. Every gift, big or small, makes a huge difference. As we head towards the end of our fiscal year in December, we are asking out you to please consider a tax-deductible donation to insure that our 5th Anniversary Festival in 2010 is as kick ass as previous years.

'09 was a momentous year for Capital Fringe:

  • We continued to give 70% of ticket revenue directly to the Artists; for a total of over $168,000;
  • More than 200 acts made up of 1000 individual artists presented over 800 performances;
  • Over 70 performances sold out;
  • Over 11,000 audience members purchased more than 21,500 tickets (that is 5000 more tickets sold than in 2008);
  • Performances took place in 20 venues around our city;
  • WE launch a new music series FAST to expand the Festival and to illustrate that we are a preforming artist festival;
  • We kept our home at the former home of the AV Ristorante Italiano — we call it The Fort. The Fort will houses three indoor preformance venues and one outdoor: Baldacchino Gypsy Tent Bar, The Shop Theatre, The REDRUM, The Bedroom.
  • Created a partnership with Sasha Bruce Youth Work expanded the Fringe Training Factory to include at-risk youth programs with the intention of monitoring and cultivating young artists, voices and leaders that will join and shape the DC performing arts community.
