2023 Fringe Festival Venue Manager

All Venue Manager positions are filled for the 2023 Captial Fringe Festival.

Capital Fringe is seeking motivated individuals to serve as Fringe Festival Venue Managers for the 2023 Capital Fringe Festival.  The Venue Manager acts as the primary point of contact of Capital Fringe to the Fringe Run Venue contacts, artists, volunteers, and patrons of their particular venue.

We need those applying to have a positive attitude, the ability to problem solve, excellent communication skills, and the ability to stay cool and happy under pressure. The Venue Manager primarily serves as house manager but should have a basic understanding of technical equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot in the event of equipment failure. Venue Managers ensure a smooth, and pleasant, experience for both Fringe artists and audiences alike.

Contract Term

Training one day (paid) June 26 – July 1. The date will be set no later than June 15. The position starts July 10 – 12 for tech rehearsals and theatre performance days are Thu – Sun only (July 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23) and finalizes during load out and strike July 31.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the assigned venue contact person during the Festival to ensure proper use of the space
  • Oversee repertory performance schedule for multiple productions (each venue has no more than six productions, each doing five performances)
  • Assist and supervise Fringe artists during performances and technical rehearsals
  • Work with Box Office Staff to ensure good communication with patrons and to get shows started on time
  • Handle technical problems or needs of artists with the assistance of production staff
  • Oversee cleanliness of all Venue spaces used by Capital Fringe, assuring a positive environment for artists, patrons, and Venue staff
  • Assist with load-in and load-out of all venues

Qualifications:

  • An appreciation and passion for the arts and artists is an asset
  • Knowledge of a theatre environment, stage management or technical theatre, is an asset
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work independently
  • Creative-minded with the ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in a bustling festival environment
  • Possess excellent customer service, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills – positive attitude
  • Working weekends and evenings will be required
  • Physical work is required
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination before commencing the role.

Compensation:   

Pay rate is $30 per hour

2023 Fringe Festival Box Office Staff

Capital Fringe is looking for Box Office Operators for the Capital Fringe Festival from July 13 to 23, 2023. Theatre performance days are Thu – Sun only (July 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23). Some additional workdays will be added on non-theatre performance days and/or in June for the Festival Preview. Box Office Staff must be energetic and proactive with excellent communication skills and outgoing, kind personality.

Contract Term

Training one day (paid) June 26 – July 1. The date will be set no later than June 15. Available for shifts run July 13 – 23. Contract ends July 24, 2022.

Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Be the first point of contact when customers enter the venue
  • Sell tickets for shows at the venue you are assigned to
  • Provide information to customers and Festival participants where appropriate
  • Proactively work as part of a small but efficient team
  • No Festival venue will accept cash; credit card sales only
  • Assist in Set-up and breakdown (including computers, printers, supplies, etc.) of the Fringe Festival box offices before, during, and once the Festival has closed. 
  • Venue Box office operations, including the sale of single tickets and passes (no cash sales), reports, and customer service  
  • Problem-solving, as needed, in venue locations

Qualifications:   

  • Relevant experience working in a box office, Front of House or similar role
  • Comfortable with, or willing to learn, technological tools such as printers and credit card swipers that are essential to the Capital Fringe Festival’s box office operations
  • Flexible working in different venue locations throughout the course of the Fringe Festival (all venues are located in Georgetown DC), often alone or with one fellow Fringe staff member   
  • Passion for theatre and the arts
  • Grace and a sense of humor
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination before commencing the role.

Time Commitment:    

The Capital Fringe Festival runs from July 13 to 23, 2023. Box Office Staff start on or around July 11 and work anywhere from 20-30hours/week. Some work is available in June for special Fringe Festival events. Festival Box Office hours range from 10am to 11:45pm on weekends, and 3:45pm to 11:45 pm on weekdays. Training will be scheduled as needed.  

Compensation:   

Pay rate is $25 per hour.
