OPEN CALL Down to Earth

Down to Earth: 13-week Paid Visual Art Seasonal Artist Residency

Applications are now closed.  Notifications will be sent no later than mid-August.

Capital Fringe is pleased to announce two paid artist residency opportunities under the theme ‘Down to Earth,’ aimed at providing a platform for local DMV artists to create artwork that addresses the intersection of the climate crisis and systemic racism, utilizing the landscape and wildlife of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and Ward 7’s past, present, and future as either canvas or inspiration.

Learn more about 2020-2021 four season artists and program structure.

Application submissions are welcome from DC, Maryland, and Virginia residents. Artists may apply as individuals or as a collective. All visual art practices are welcome and encouraged.  The residency is particularly interested in microhistory—a study of overlooked details where a place, event, group, or individual can shed light on and expand our understanding of collective human agency and artistic expression.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
