We are open to the unknown, to risk and chance. We honor the history of Fringes that have come before us, our own seventeen-year history, and the city in which we live and create. We know that DC doesn’t have an avant-garde, rock-it-out-to-all-hours-of-the-night scene (Metro won’t stay open late enough; cost of living so high). But we think there’s a place here for something not codified, curated or filtered by committees, institutions, special event promoters and politically appointed individuals.

Fringe offers something that is not familiar! We want you to experience what live theatre feels like when the regional theatre machine is stripped away. We are theatre artists and technicians! Fringe does not determine ‘artistic value’ for the audiences or artists. Fringe delivers attainable space for any story told by anyone on a stage. There are things that you will love and hate – you just have to find them! Fringe is a treasure hunt. So, get your ear to the ground! Word of mouth recommendations around the Festival Bar and venues are the most reliable way to gauge what’s hot and what’s not. You are invited to create, explore, fall short and succeed with us. Changes to the Fringe Festival in this new time.
In the planning and execution of this year’s Festival, the goals have been to lower the admin lift for the staff and artists, create the safest pandemic environment for live performance that we can in attainable space, and create a fun accessible environment for all audiences.
The 2022 Festival compared to prior years
· 8 days of performance vs. 18 days
· $15 single tickets only and no multi-show passes
· 31 productions vs. 100+
· Festival Bar run by Sandlot Georgetown vs. Fringe run bar
· New ticketing system made specifically for Fringe Festivals, Eventotron
· There is no box office phone number (Washington Sports Club is the best box office to visit for help in purchasing tickets)
· Three venues with six stags vs. 15+ venues
· Late seating at all venues vs. no late seating
· Masking and vaccine/id check for all indoor stages
· No button discounts. Instead, use your e-ticket receipt for Festival neighborhood discounts
