When and Where
This year’s Festival in Georgetown is streamlined and smaller – 31 productions, 6 stages, 4 performance venues and one official festival bar. The Festival runs Thursday through Sunday the third and fourth weekends in July 14-17 and 21-24. Weekday performances are in the evening from 5pm-11pm and weekend performances are from 11am-11pm. Paid parking is available. The nearest metro (Foggy Bottom – GWU, orange and blue line) is a fifteen-minute walk. The Georgetown area is serviced by many different bus lines. The official festival bar is Sandlot Georgetown, roughly a seven to ten-minute walk from the Georgetown Park venues.
What is available?
Ticket cost is $15 per ticket. There is only one ticket type available. There are no multi-show passes or group sales. Tickets are available online now and at the physical box offices beginning July 14. Cash is not accepted. Maximum capacity at all venues is limited to just 51 attendees and shows are currently selling-purchase early! Standing room only (SRO) tickets are available at two venues (3 Stars and “Whatsoever”) and will go on sale when general admission tickets have sold.
How to Purchase Tickets
Tickets are available online and in person. 70% of ticket sales go to the artist, an increase of 10% over previous years (artist $10.50, Capital Fringe $4.50). No refunds and no exchanges.
To purchase tickets check out the show pages, select the show you want to see, scroll to the bottom, and chose the specific date and time you want to attend. Click on the “buy tickets” button and a pop-up window will open. Use the search and sorting functions – it works well! Eventotron is a ticketing marketplace designed specifically for the Fringe Festival global community. You do not need to register to purchase tickets. The service fee at every point of sale is $2.24 (processing fee $1.04, Fringe $1.20).
It is true, there is no printed Festival guide this year. Please reference our by-day schedule (show list by title and venue). You will still need to use the website to read the show descriptions.
There is a box office located at each venue. All box offices will open one (1) hour prior to the first performance and will close fifteen (15) minutes after the final performance of the night begins. If you have any questions, wanna talk through show schedule etc. please visit us at the Washington Sports Club Box Office, 3270 M Street NW. Late seating happens at every single venue 10/15 minutes after each scheduled curtain time – no later!!
Getting To and Around the Festival
Parking
Parking is challenging in Georgetown. Fortunately, there is paid parking available at the venue. Georgetown Park charges a $15 flat fee on the weekends. On Thursday and Friday, the flat fee is $12 after 5 pm. The garage has a low clearance, 6’4”. Fringe has no control over the parking garage BUT we have noticed it is quite full most of the time. So, have a backup plan.
Public Transportation
The following bus lines service the venue area: 30N, 30S, 31, 33, 38B, D2, D6, G2, DC Circulator. All bus lines stop within 1-2 blocks of the festival. The nearest metro stop is Foggy Bottom – GWU. The metro is a 15-minute walk from the Festival. It is quite reasonable to take Metro and scoot over to the Festival.
Bike Share
The nearest bike share locations are Potomac & M St NW, C & O Canal & Wisconsin Ave NW, 34th & Water St NW.
C and O Canal Path
The “Whatsoever” stage is a five-minute walk down the canal path from the other performance venues. It is hosting one site-specific theatre performance throughout the Festival, My Father, My Martyr, and Me.
Directions to “Whatsoever”
Cross the canal from M & 33rd St, look right, and follow the pink flags to get to the venue. This venue is not handicap accessible. The venue offers no AC. Bring something to fan yourself with and water to drink Please note, the entrance is on the canal side of the building.
Yes #DCisOpen AND We’re in a Pandemic
It is amazing to be back at the Festival! We feel it – just like you do! Positive cases are happening – and while most do not result in death or super-serious illness they do result in canceled performances (canceled performances will not be rescheduled). Proof of vaccination or a negative test and identification are required to enter any indoor theatre at the Festival. Masks must be worn properly during the eternity of all performances. Shows run 60-75 minutes! You need to bring your own mask!
We are very proud of our Box Office and Venue Management team here at Capital Fringe, many of whom have been with us for years. They are what make the Festival possible. They are also the folks who will be checking your ID, negative test, or proof of vaccination in person prior to entering all performance venues. Enter and attend with kindness!
